Mold Creeps Up as Flood Water Goes Down

The residents of Siouxland made a big sigh of relief when the water of Missouri River receded. However, their dilemma is far from over. Mold has now started growing up on the wet surfaces of their properties.

One resident, Ray Schmitz has spent days cleaning up mold in his home. He even had to tear his floor carpets and sheet rock to prevent the mold from farther spreading. But Ray Schmitz is not alone in his struggle; his neighbors are also facing the same problem.

And though Ray Schmitz and his neighbors had already accepted their fate, they are still worried  that the mold remediation will bring them bigger financial problem.

“It once took a boat to navigate through Riv-R-Land Estates but now homes and roads are drying up as flood waters from the Missouri River recede. But as you can see the water has left a big problem inside homes mold. Ray Schmitz has spent days trying to clean the mold in his home.
“We got a portable generator, put fans in to suck the air out and wherever it started for the most part I’ve tried to keep it wiped down with bleach and water,” said Schmitz.
Schmitz also had to tear out his carpet after water sat on his main floor for days. His backyard, a complete mess. It’s the same scene at Brian Coan’s home as the river is still creeping up to it. He had to tear out the sheet rock in his garage to keep the mold from spreading. Certainly an emotional recovery for everyone.”
“And Schmitz says, “I’m a realist, I know what’s happening and there’s nothing I can do about it. I have to accept what I have here.”

According to Ray Schmitz, he used bleach and water to wipe out mold in his home. However, his method of mold remediation is not effective. The bleach seem to make the mold disappear.
