Parents Cook Up a Rally Against Lumberport Middle School, Reason: MOLD

House mold is a no-no to the concerned parents of Lumberport Middle School students. The confirmation of mold presence in the school pushed them to rally just before the school set to open on Friday.

Parents say they want their time with the school board to discuss safety.

LUMBERPORT – Several concerned parents are planning to hold a rally before school Friday morning to draw attention to what they call unacceptable conditions at a local middle school.

A building inspection company recently confirmed that Lumberport Middle School has house mold.

Ron Cutlip from MSES Consulting said the company collected bulk samples a few weeks ago and tested positive for common outdoor mold.

Cutlip blames the mold on wet insulation.

MSES Consulting is now testing to determine whether the mold is airborne.

We’ve also learned that a window fell out of the school two days ago, narrowly missing some children.

It was reportedly not related to the earthquake.

Parents have planned a pre-school rally for Friday at 7:30 a.m.

They said the school board won’t recognize the unacceptable conditions at the school.

Superintendent Susan Collins has responded Thursday afternoon, and said she’ll meet with the parents Friday morning.
